Tallest Atrium
Tallest Atrium
Aside from giving proper heating and ventilation, an Atrium can also add elegance and style in the over-all look of a building. This is the reason why almost all (if not all) of modern buildings have 2 or more Atriums inside their premises. It is usual for Atriums to stand several stories high but, the tallest known Atrium, found in Dubai's Burj Al Arab hotel, is beyond what you call normal or typical.
As of 2007, the Burj Al Arab hotel owns the reputation of being the hotel with the tallest Atrium in the world. It was built as the key icon of the rapid urban development in the city of Dubai in United Arab Emirates. It currently stands as the most significant landmark of the city and one of its hottest tourist spots. Aside from its world-renowned Atrium standing for about 180 meters or 590 ft. tall, Burj Al Arab is also remarked by many as the lone 7-star hotel in the world.
Burj Al Arab hotel's Atrium lobby is formed in-between the building's V-shaped span structure. It is estimated that the Atrium takes up over one-third of the hotel's interior space and is said to have the capacity to accommodate the whole of Dubai World Trade Center building. The lower floor of the Atrium lobby has ocean-blue undersides which blend perfectly well with the Atrium's ceiling.
The largest Atrium, on the other hand, is found inside the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Its Atrium measures for about 29 million cubic feet (820,000 m³).
